John reached out to me in late March 2022, right after he and Helena had moved into their new home. Despite their busy schedules, we managed to connect over the phone a few weeks later, and we hit it off immediately. They were both so easy-going, witty, and genuinely engaging that I knew within minutes I wanted to photograph their wedding.
They hadn’t mapped out every detail of their wedding yet, but they had secured the beautiful Sheene Mill for their July ceremony and planned a casual reception in their garden for September. More than anything, John and Helena wanted their wedding to be a time to relax and celebrate with close friends and family, cherishing the moment and each other’s company.
I felt a strong connection to the couple and was thrilled to capture both days of their laid-back and joyful celebrations. Below are some of my favourite shots from their wedding, highlighting the love and laughter that made their special days so memorable.
On the day of their wedding reception, the couple, living near Duxford Imperial War Museum, enjoyed an aerial treat from the Battle of Britain Air Show. The weather that day was quite changeable, creating a dramatic backdrop with soft, dreamy light filtering through the clouds. As I drove to the venue, a squadron of Spitfires flew low, their sleek forms glistening as they darted into the distance—a spectacular start to the celebration.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by Helena’s warm smile and immediately felt welcomed. The couple had set up a marquee and hired catering staff for their special day. Adding to the ambiance, Matt Swainsbury, a talented wedding pianist and singer, performed in the early evening, enhancing the already joyful and relaxed atmosphere. Guests mingled happily, some dancing and others enjoying the air show from the garden. As the sun began to set, the exquisite evening light provided the perfect setting for stunning couple photos, capturing the love and excitement of their unforgettable day.
Kind words from the couple
“THANK YOU for being absolutely fabulous… I received so many lovely comments about you… Thank you for just being you and getting stuck in and securing some really lovely memories.”
