A sunset couple shoot on Sandbanks Beach

I have had an affinity with Dorset my whole life. I have family who live in Bournemouth & Poole and holidayed in the New Forest countless times (although that's Hampshire, but close)! Some of my earliest and dearest memories are walking down Middle Chine to the beach with my grandparents - a beach ball under my arm and holding Grandpa's hand.

I was in Dorset recently for my cousin’s beautiful wedding at the stunning Parley Manor, a venue I worked with for wedding photography a few years ago. What a weekend! Not only did I celebrate with my family, but I also couldn’t resist the opportunity for a photo shoot with a local couple on Sandbanks Beach.

The couple rocked it as we battled the elements. There had been grey skies and rain for most of the day. If you told me we'd not only have a beautiful golden sunset that evening, along with pink fluffy clouds and a full-blown rainbow, I would not have believed you! So magical, romantic, and loads of fun!

What I loved about this shoot was being able to get creative in the glistening evening light and working with a playful and fun couple in beautiful surroundings. The beach is one of my favourite places to be!

Special thanks to my friend and local photographer, Emma, for helping me. You are a legend!

Emily & James wore neutral tones that complemented the seaside beautifully. Emily's gorgeous white maxi dress was bought second-hand from Vinted that she teamed with a cute shell necklace and matching anklet. Barefoot on the beach was a must for a natural look and also helped the couple interact and move fluidly as they dipped in and out of the sea’s shore.

Here are some of my favourite images from the hour-long shoot. As you will see, the light changed dramatically throughout the golden hour, and when it turned from dusk to dark, we carried out some direct flash photography against the beautiful landscape.

I LOVE DORSET, AND I LOVE WORKING HERE! If you are thinking of getting married in Dorset or need some natural, memorable couple portraits or an engagement shoot, I'd love to be your photographer. Please contact me to discuss further, I'd love to hear from you!
